Walter (also responds to Walt and Mr. Mutthau) is a funny and vibrant boy who goes out of his way to happily wag his tail at everyone and every dog. Although he was dumped at just 9 weeks and we don’t know what he’d been through before his short stint in the shelter, he’s a very well-adjusted, social puppy who is thrilled to sit next to you while you work or watch tv (he’s a Netflix fan!).
He is a young puppy and has much to learn, but he is very good with things like sit, wait, leave it, off, and drop it. He is smart and a fast learner, loves food puzzles, fetching, gentle tugging, likes chase games, tries hard, and wants to please, and is learning self-control. He loves other dogs (a lot!) as long as they aren’t too forward with their play styles. He prefers playing with another dog, but is fine playing solo, too.
Walter would do best in an active home with people who are interested in doing a couple of dog sports with him like agility or AKC obedience. And he loves lure coursing so taking him to local Coursing Ability Tests would make him very happy. He’d make an excellent hiking partner.
Walter is crate and potty trained and can be left in his crate for up to 4 hours. He does whine a bit and sometimes let’s out a couple high pitched barks at first, but settles quickly. He sleeps in his crate all night and tends to want to sleep in.
He’s wonderful with kids, has not been around younger than 2 years. He hasn’t been around cats other than watching through a window, but understands “leave it”. He could be easily trained to respect both kids and cats, but should not be left unsupervised with either because of his love of the chase game.
